Overview

Industrial Fiber Optics invites you to build your own helium-neon laser. In this kit, you'll find all the components you need, including schematics and step-by-step assembly instructions to assembly a full size helium neon laser. It can be assembled in just three to five hours. When completed this laser will have the same electrical and optical specifications as the ML 800 laser. Assembly of the laser also provides the satisfaction of building a laser from the ground up, and a better understanding of the inner workings of a helium neon laser. An ideal project for student laboratory use, classroom demonstrations, laser shows and science projects.

Kit comes complete with hard-seal helium-neon tube, printed circuit board, electrical components, switch, fuse, laser tube mounts, transformer, high-voltage electrical wire, 3-prong electrical line cable, durable extruded aluminum housing and metal end caps with powder coating, screws, CDRH laser labels, assembly instructions, schematic, parts list and operating instructions. Does not include soldering iron or solder.

Assembly requires 25 watt soldering iron, electronic solder, Philips #1 & 2 screw driver, 2 mm Allen wrench, needle nose plier, and wire cutter. Suggest some experience soldering and assembly of kits, or assistance from somebody that has.

Features:

  • Hard-seal laser tubes for long life
  • Shock-resistant mountings
  • Durable extruded aluminum housing that protects the laser tube and power supply components
  • 90 day limited warranty
  • Solid-state power supply
  • Standard 1/4 inch threaded hole for tripod or optical bench mounting
  • Mechanical slide shutter over front aperture to block beam with having to turn off power supply (as required by CDRH)
  • Rear end cap with power switch indicator lamps, fuse holder and line cord with 3 prong grounded plug
  • Full-length rubber strips on the underside to prevent scratching and slipping on polished surfaces
  • Labels and safety features to meet all U.S. CDRH regulations
  • Power requirements 105 - 125 VAC 60 Hz
Suitable for experiments such as:

  • Viewing refraction in optical materials
  • Angle of incidence and reflection on mirror surfaces
  • Tyndall's light-guiding-in-water experiments
  • Scattering of light by small suspended particles
  • Critical angle determination in materials
  • Convergence and divergence in optical lenses
